Carafate is just a brand of sucralfate. It may have a few extra items in insignificant quantities (coloring, etc.) but for all intents and purposes, it's the same thing.

Sucralfate given 10-15 minutes before feeding should immediately offer some protection for any ulcers and reduce the pain of eating. Does it totally eliminate all discomfort and help the ferret eat normally? Probably not but it probably also depends on the level of damage.
