Is your current vet very ferret knowledgable? If not, consider another vet that is known for ferret experience. At that age,
I would be very aggressive with treatments. Blood, xrays,
biopsy or surgery if indicated. There is something called
"mystery illness" that hits younger ferrets, high fevers ( over 103),
very lethargic, swollen lymph node also they have a very very
high white cell count. I would at least start with blood
tests and cultures if needed. Juvenile lymphosarcoma can be very
aggressive, and fast. Need some xrays, and blood, then a biopsy
to diagnose. Infections can be aggressive also in young ferrets.

Keep him eating, hand feedings if needed. Warmed meat baby foods
work well, or science A/D food from the vet. Can mix with ground
kibble, a little water, warm it up and hand feed it, put some
nutrical on it for taste if needed.

If tests were done, it helps to post them and the results and
what meds the ferret is taking to help answer any further questions.

I received a ferret for x-mas 2004. He is just under one year old and he is the joy of my life. He is smart, funny and we both love him very much.
Unfortunately, he has become ill with something I and my vet are not too sure of. He is very sore around the stomach area and is inflamed. He also has a temperature and has lost almost a pound. The vet suggested we start him on antibiotics and try to feed him as much as we can to get his weight up.
thx
