Try to get the 3 pack of advantage for big dogs, you can
dose them by weight from that. If you have a small dog
you may be able to use one advantage tube for the dog and
the ferrets. Using it once a month, the 3 pack will last
you for 3 months and usually the cost is about $10 or so
per tube. Cheaper than flea bombs, sprays, and other
problems the fleas can cause. If you go with frontline,
the spray bottle is cheapest way to go to treat a household
of ferrts and cats. I don't think you can use it for the
dog, but they sell dog frontline. this also works for about 2-3 months depending on the exposure and flea problem in your area.
I understand the costs, but really it is worth it, just
like the heartworm meds for the dogs, in the long
run treating heartworm is more costly than preventing it.
If you get the big advantage tube, the dose is not the whole
package, just a few drops per ferret ( I think 0.1ml-
but can check the archives for exact dose)

ps. If you have those low cost clinics near you ( petsmart/petco's have them) you can get a package for the dog, shots, heartworm test
and so on for one price. Usually pretty good. The petsmart vet by me also will do ferrets, $20 for distemper shot, no charge for exam.
