Subject: Hill's feline w/d for IBD? VETS?

Does anyone have any info or experience with feeding Hill's feline w/d for treatment of IBD? I searched the archives, I found several references to ferrets being fed w/d, alone or mixed with something else, some having IBD, some not, but no info on whether it was working.

Harley had a ruptured anal sac (that wasn't supposed to even be there!), but after surgery continued to have diarrhea, lethargy, teeth grinding, anorexia, some vomiting. He was already on sucralfate for ulcers, and amoxi, and the Vet recently add flagyl. Harley is doing much better: poops are well-formed, but slightly bird-seedy; he eats, plays more, no more vomiting. The Vet thinks Harley may have IDB, which is why she added flagyl. She said put him on w/d, he needs a high fiber diet to slow the movement of food through the intestinal tract.

Isn't w/d too low in fat and too high in fiber, even for IBD? Wouldn't z/d be a better choice?

BTW, Vet was reluctant to do surgery to find out for sure if it is IBD or helicobacter (I think helico, due to the ulcers), preferring to treat. He is not adrenal or insulinomic.

Thanks,
Kim
