Hello,

I have a female ferret that is 1.5 years old=85I noticed about a month ago =
that she didn=92t have the energy she used to=85seemed to sleep a bit longe=
r and her play wasn=92t as intense=85..but she still runs and jumps around =
when she is awake. The hair on her tail is a bit thinner and she seems to =
scratch a lot=85more than my other ferret. I took her to the vet and he to=
ok an x ray of her and a blood sample=85.the x ray=85everything looked norm=
al=85.but the blood sample came back with a low red blood cell count=85..35=
.2 and normal is something like 42 to 55=85..he called it a non regenerati=
ve anemia. My vet told me that this could mean two things=85.one was when =
she was spayed a bit of ovarian tissue was left behind=85..She does not hav=
e a swollen vulva though=85.and when he checked her out nothing felt swolle=
n. The second is a bone cancer. I have been able to find very little info=
rmation on this but did find that they get weak hind legs=85.which is not t=
he case yet anyways=85.seems maybe a little weaker all over. I have an app=
ointment with the vet this Wednesday (May 26, 2004) and he is going to do e=
xploratory surgery on her and see if he can find any ovarian tissue that wa=
s not properly removed=85.If its not that I don=92t know really what to do=85=
if I should put her down because of the bone cancer=85..I don=92t want her =
to suffer from that=85or if it could be something else other than the bone =
cancer=85.she doesn=92t seem that sick yet=85.if anyone has any advice or k=
nowledge on this I would like to hear from you.

Thanks for your help.

David
