Hi everyone,

My smallest female just had surgery on the 19th of May. Splenectomy
(small tumor found on spleen), partial pancreatectomy (blood sugar was 66),
and a liver and lymph node biopsy. She is an older ferret (adopted - not
sure of age) and rather small - 1.63lbs.

Her meds post-op are 0.1 Torbutol: 3-4X daily for pain. 0.5 Orbax: 1X
daily to fight infection. 0.5 Pet Tinic: 2X daily to replace iron.

She was very lethargic... head drooping, spacing out, slept constantly,
etc. so I took her back in on the 21st. Doc said her vitals were good,
blood sugar was 118, pads and gums pink so he feels confident she'll bounce
back. He said to try increasing or decreasing the frequency w/which I give
her Torbutol..... most likely she was reacting to pain. Ugh!!

Anyway it's now the 23rd; I've tried Torb. every 4 hours, then I tried
letting her go all night (11hours) on just the 0.1. Either way, she's still
lethargic. Sleeps constantly, stops what she's doing and just hangs her
head spacing. Only gets up to use the bathroom.

She does eat well, though. But, only when I wake her. I don't believe
she's eating on her own.

Sorry this is so long. My other ferrets bounced back so much faster after
their surgerys. I know it's only been 4 days but she really has me worried.
Has anyone else had a ferret take this long to recover? I'll be calling the
vet 1st thing Monday morning.... just hoping you had some thoughts in the
mean time.

Thanks,

-Y-
