The way to know why the R galnd was hard in feel is to remove and biopsy it; it's not something that a guess can be made on.
If the L came out and the R is atrophied, which you speculate, then meds to replace adrenal hormones will be needed: Percorten of Florinef/Fludrocort with Prednisolone.
