If the ferret had both adrenals out 3/4 of a year ago but didn't need meds to supplement the adrenal hormones then some adrenal tissue remained behind. Since he'd dealing with other health concerns as well I doubt that you are thinking of a further surgery at this time so this ferret MIGHT benefit from Lupron or Lupron and melatonin.

Having had one who had fur follicles greatly compromised by rapid adrenal onset I have to say that for this one I'd be inclined to ask for the Tennessee Panel or to try a Lupron challenge to see if that changes anything. The reason is because our little girl, Ashling, who had her follicles compromised used to lose fur for any strong physical or emotional stress thereafter, yet in her case the adrenals were out cleanly. Since you say this ferret appears to have a serious infectious illness I think the the possiblities which need to be considered are: Adrenal tissue has regrown, or the follicles are very compromised so the infectious illness is causing the fur loss.
