Hi David,
It sounds more like your little girl has
adrenal gland disease! Ovarian remment
is possible, but not likely without a swollen
vulva. The hair loss on the tail and itchy skin
are common early signs (of this very common ferret
problem) of adrenal gland disease. The exploratory
surgery is a good choice, but please have your vet check
her adrenal glands! Yes, adrenal gland disease can happen
when they are this young, and anemia is also common with
adrenal gland disease.
Yes, bone marrow disease and cancer (lymphoma) are
possible, but adrenal gland disease is more likely.
