My vets used to use a gas mask to anaesthetise ferrets- then intubated them
once they were under. Now they have made a "gas chamber"- a gallon sized
water bottle, cut in half, they stick the ferret in that, put the 2 sides
together and connect the front of the bottle to the gas. When the ferret is
under, they again intubate. I witnessed this method of anaesthetising when
my ferret Bella was put to sleep in March. She was so frightened and upset
in that bottle, struggling to get away from the smell. It *really* upset me
to see her like that... What I was wondering, is this gas chamber method
humane? Or is it kinder to put a mask in front of the ferret's face, it
seems they go under so much quicker rather than panic in that chamber.

All the best
