Hi, all! My 3 1/2 year old male underwent emergency surgery 3 days ago to =
remove stones from his bladder. The vets were not able to catherterize him=
or clear his urethra. They had to basically put a hole in his body cavity=
and connect a valve to his bladder so that urine can drain out. Despite t=
he dismal predictions of the doctors, our Louie has made amazing progress a=
nd is doing quite well. There was a lot of concern that due to urine backi=
ng up into his kidneys, toxins in his blood could cause his heart to fail. =
I guess his kidneys were shut down completely at the time of the operation=
. Anyway, he is doing good now except that yesterday he had a decent amoun=
t of blood coming out of his mouth. The vet at the ER seemed to think that=
this was caused by ulcers that formed due to the antibotics and stress. H=
e was put on carafate. The vet at the ER admitted that he knew very little=
about ferrets and our vet is out of the office until Thursday. What else =
could the blood be? It has stopped since we started the carafate. Also, a=
ny more info or advice concerning the bladder stones would be appreciated. =
Is there a way to prevent stones or crystals from forming?
Thanks in advance!
Samanthia
