Gastric torsion in dogs is referred to bloat. My Irish Setter bloated in Feb. and had a gastropexy for that. The spleen is hugging the stomach (so I understand, probably bad verbage) and twists when the stomach does. I don't know about ferret anatomy, but that's what happens in dogs. The spleen can be damaged when this happens as well.
