Hi Ann,
You really are between a rock and a hard place.
The pred can cause the glucose to be elevated,
but a 700 glucose is most likely diabetes. The urinary
glucose and ketones actually means she has diabetic
ketoacidosis (DKA). DKA is a serious and possbly fatal
problem too. As to how to treat your little girl: stop the
pred, continue fluids (0.9% NACL either IV or SQ), use
PZI insulin (1 unit, 2 times a day to start with), and use
Gerber's baby food or Hill's a/d food to help increase her
appetitie. DKA can cause nausea and vomiting and
so can the chemotherapy drug you are using. Thus stop
the Leukeran also.
Once she is more stable perhaps try Cytoxan instead of
Leukeran. Plus Lupron to treat the adrenal gland disease.
Lymphoma and adrenal gland disease may both be why
she devolped diabetes (ie don't just blame the pred).
Good luck with her,
Jerry Murray, DVM
