It is best to not give Carafate with foods; it works better haivng something like 10 to 20 minutes between, so anyone who had fine results with foods can happily imagine how much better it can be.
Carafate is actually designed with little capillaries, so placed in a small amount fo fluid (humans put it in about a 1/4 cup of water) and left alone it "blooms" and then falls apart on its own. Tablets which are getting old can take longer than more recently manufactured ones to "bloom". (You can tell I have a relative who has had to use it.)
For ferrets, though, it is a lot easier to use the prescription liquid suspension which can be gotten from any pharmacy and some vets, and is very affordable for ferrets. We have had great results with that and they so far have pretty consistently accepted it better than many other meds.
