One of the FHL's past homepage photos was of a ferret with glaucoma, and I =
seem to recall at least one past vet mention of retinal disease not being u=
ncommon. Injuries can happen, too; we had one with a breeding injury before=
her breeder retired her from when a mounting male somehow landed a canine =
in one of her eyes (and the eye was saved but had only some light and shado=
w being possibly seen afterward, and it needed artificial tears). Drug sid=
e effects may be possible. Can diabetes damage eyes in ferrets? Optic mal=
ignancies? Retinal displacement? Macular problems? Dislodged lenses? Br=
ain or optic nerve injury or damage from disease could potentially be blind=
ing. Let's see, there is blood supply to eye, nerves and muscles for moveme=
nt, boney protection, eye placement and such, the lens, the eyeball itself =
in terms of things like having the right pressure, the retinal condition, t=
he eyeball shape, the condition of the optic nerve and surrounding tissue, =
the neurological pathway to the brain, the products used for lubricating th=
e eye, the communication with the sinuses, and the brain processing, so asp=
ects of each might need ot be considered in such a discussion. =

Let's see:

and more...

I'm not a vet and not a breeder, but in case this might help...
