I don't know what the norm is but I wouldn't make any assumptions. My
Pepe lived for several years with insulinoma, on prednisone to control it,
and in the end it wasn't the insulinoma that caused me to lose him. The
process was to be that the prednisone would be increased in steps as it's
effectiveness was diminished, then at some point an additional medication
would be added and the prednisone dose would be lowered. After that the
prednisone dose would be raised in steps again as needed. As it turned out
he never needed the second medication and the pred was only increased
a couple times. He did real well for years. You're symptoms by the way
sound absolutely like insulinoma. It's my understanding (I'm not a vet)
that the syrup (I used honey) should only be used in emergencies. It brings
the blood sugar back up, but if used too often at the slightest sign of a
problem it also stimulates insulin production, and of coarse it's the
overproduction of insulin from the diseased pancreas that's the culprit
in the first place.
