I am writing to ask if anyone has had much experience with testing blood glucose at home. I had two ferrets in the past with insulinoma and remember all the trips down to the vet to check their blood sugars. More and more people at our clinic have been testing their dogs and cats' glucose level at home by pricking the ear and the animal seems fine, they also are less stressed as they do not have to be at the vet as much. I remember reading about people doing it with ferrets I think it was by using their pads? Does anyone do it and what is the best type of glucometer to buy?
The reason that I am asking is one of my ferrets is suspected of having it. Frodo's blood sugars have been low the last two times at the vet's. He is scheduled for surgery next Wednesday.
Thank you,
Stephanie
