Is there a veterinary opthalmologist in your area? I'd REALLY go that way. With sunken eyes that could be damage to the eye itself causing that appearance, damage to the supporting structures, or sometimes a brain tumor can sink an eye in other species so i guess that may be possible in ferrets.
