HelloI have a 2yr 7 month old male Marshall ferret, Toe, that had a very s=
trange incident occur on Monday night. He just had adrenal surgery on June 1=
st. The surgery went extremely well. He had a very large node on the left =
gland and the gland was completely removed. The right gland was fine. He a=
lso had a =93spec=94 on his pancreas removed that was nothing. He looked q=
uite healthy on the inside according to the vet ( Dr. X in Florida, did the=
surgery) He healed rapidly and was itching at his staples a week later and=
they were removed June 8th. He was for the most part, completely recovere=
d, but he was still being closed watched and not being let over do it. He i=
s still on Amoxicilion .5 cc 2x=92s a day.Monday night we went out side, he=
was fine. I bought them inside on about 8:15 pm,got their food ready, it =
took me about 10 mins. I went to round every body up and found Toe flat ou=
t, face/ whiskers wet, backside completely wet and him flat out crashed. I =
carefully pick him up got him to the kitchen floor set him down, rounded up=
the rest of the crew up to cage them to rush Toe to the vet. While I was d=
oing this, Toe got up, trotted about 10-15 feet into the bathroom and backu=
p to a corner and a completely red fluid with what was thought to be food s=
pecs come out of his back side, then flattened out again. I thought, this =
was it, something happened, he is bleeding out We scooped some of the red s=
tuff, carefully picked up Toe and rush to meet the vet at his office. He l=
aid on my lap on the way to the vets office which is about 25-30 mins away.=
He was basically still on the way and I kept checking to see if he was br=
eathing. We arrived at the vets office about 9:05pm. As we were waiting fo=
r the vet, Toe all of the sudden brought his head up and started looking ar=
ound. A few mins later he stood up on my lap and batted at my water bottle=
. I gave him water and he drank A LOT!! The vet arrived about 9:15 =96 By t=
hat time, Toe was alert and responsive. We took him into the office and se=
t him down on the exam table. He promptly got up and started to walk around =
and check things out!!!. The vet took the liquid, which was still red, so =
it was not blood because it had not turned brown, and ran a couple of tests=
. It was determined that there was a slight trace of blood in it, but the =
substance could not be determined. The vet checked him over, checked the p=
rostate, his penis, we completely felt his lower half to see if he was sens=
itive and Toe was fine. He was just annoyed the he was being poked. I had =
picked him up and was holding him while talking with the vet and he started=
get wiggly. I put him down and he promptly trotted to a corner and went p=
ee. It was normal, slightly dark maybe.. but normal for the most part. We=
gave him some water, which again, he drank quite a bit, and he ate some Nu=
ti-cal. At this point we are completely puzzled. He seemed fine. So, we to=
ok him home to monitor him and see what happened. Once we got him home ( a=
bout 10:30 ) I wanted to see if he would eat anything. He took 2 spoons of=
baby food and that was it. About 5 mins later he ran off and promptly thr=
ow up. It was liquidly baby food. Once he was done throwing up, he trotte=
d over to the water dish to drink. Again, seemed ok, just tired. We got t=
he sick cage ready for him. Once he got in the cage, he went to the bathro=
om again, this time some reddish glob of jelly type stuff came out of his =
backside. He did not strain, and it did not bother him.He went to drink so=
me water, then laid down to go to sleep.I had put down a white towel in the=
corner for a litter box, water and a dish with about 20 pieces of kibble =
in it and went to slept, waking up every couple hours to check on him. He s=
eemed ok every time I checked. At about 4am I woke up to a crunching sound=
. Toe was eating. He ate everything in the dish and was annoyed that is w=
as gone. I gave him another hand full of food and he ate about another 10 =
pieces. At about 7am =96 he did a soft, but formed poo. It was normal brown =
color. He went to work with me and was monitor all day. He was basically =
acting normal, but tired. By the afternoon he was pooping and peeing compl=
etely normal. Today (Wednesday) he is once again monitored all day, acting =
normal, like nothing happened. Does anyone have ANY idea what could have ha=
ppened? We are completely baffled. A couple of thoughts=85 maybe he ate so=
mething outside.. a bug or something or maybe he had developed a cyst from =
laying after surgery and it bust.Another thought, maybe he has / had a slig=
ht case of Heliobacter. And the surgery stress aggravated it and he had a r=
eaction. But none of these completely fit what happen.I am happy he seems t=
o be ok now, but really hate not knowing what happened, and I am afraid I c=
ould wake up in the morning or come home from work tomorrow and find him cr=
ashed again. Any thoughts or input is most welcome and appreciated.ThanksBr=
