You might want to look at http://www.miamiferret.org/fhc/ben.htm where you'll see the pictures and story of Ben who bit into an electrical cord and burned the roof of his mouth. This turned into a hole in the roof of his mouth that took major reconstructive surgery to repair.

I don't know if Nacho could have done something like this, but I wouldn't wait to get him into a vet. If allowed to continue to increase in size, it might become more difficult to correct. Carafate is not going to do one thing for his mouth. Carafate works by combining with stomach acid to form a sticky paste like substance. There's none of that in the mouth so it's just going to pass right by on its way to his stomach.
