If Teddy is not a candidate for surgery, discuss steroid treatment with your
vet. Many ferrets respond very favorably while to steroid therapy.
Sometimes steroids can be used to try to improve the ferret's condition to a
point where surgery may be an option.
(Please know, I am not a vet. Just trying to throw out ideas!)
