Subject: Update on obese ferret - help!

I posted last month about my 4 yo ferret Fritz, who was weighing in at 3 lbs., 15 oz. at the vet. He had complete bloodwork done and it was absolutely normal. Palpations revealed no unusual organ sizes, no lymph nodes enlarged -- in other words, completely healthy except for weight!
After 5 weeks on a 3 Tb-a-day diet of Totally Ferret, and increased exercise outside (when able with weather), Fritz has lost no weight.
My vet is not sure what to do, and neither am I. Has anyone ever heard of a ferret with thyroid issues? Frankly we are at a loss, but one thing we do know is that this weight will be detrimental to his longevity.
Any and all suggestions welcome -- my vet is consulting with a number of her colleagues who are ferret experts.
