When we had ECE here the disease passed faster in some than others. The worst, who stayed sick for about 3 month, had symptoms prolonged by secondary illnesses or by colitis. Different ferrets had different complications.

Yes, there does appear to be an immunity which develops in ferrets (though bets may be off for ones who are immune compromised).

The illness itself can be shed for many months afterward.
