No, reason to blame your self for the post-op problems.
You did the right thing by choosing surgery. You wanted
to give Bruno the best treatment possible.
Yes, the vena cava can be ligated when needed.
Most ferrets will have enough collateral circulation to adjust
for ligation of the vena cava.
Yes, pain management is important. Torb., metacam, or even
pediapred can be used for pain control. Most ferrets do just fine
with an urinary catheter. The hard part is getting the urinary catheter
in. The prostate can be marsupialized if needed, but I would
not marsupialize the bladder unless absolutely needed.
Try Hill's a/d and Gerber's baby food along with his regular food
and treats to increase his appetite.
