Yep, that's one of the things we use it for here. A monthly dose of
Revolution helps prevent heartworm, ear mites, and in one ferret,
knocked out an early case of mange (also a kind of mite).

For containing the cost, I use the largest dog size. It seems Merial
prices the stuff by the box, not by the amount of selamectin in the
box. A box of large dog tubes costs almost the same as a box of
kitten tubes.

To do it this way, I just draw a dose at a time out of a tube using a
needle and syringe, REMOVE the needle, and then apply it to the ferret
from the syringe. If you do this, make sure to remember that the
large dog dose is twice the concentration of the cat doses, so you
will need to use half the volume of the dose you might be used to.
(This works out to 0.375 ml for the equivalent cat dose, and 0.125 ml
for the kitten dose.)

By the way, it helps to have several animals to treat if you do this.
Treating a single ferret this way won't save you any money, since you
will need to throw the tube away after you puncture it. (It
evaporates pretty quickly anyway.) I get about 12 kitten doses (4 cat
doses) out of a single large dog tube. It should be 16 doses, but you
lose a little bit doing it like this.
