These are both common complications of a common ferret health problem: adrenal neoplasia.
You will find EXCELLENT vet info by going to
http://fhl.sonic-weasel.org
and seeking the posts on anemia and on prostate from Dr. Jerry Murray, a researcher in ferret endocrinology as well as a practising vet.
I suggest surgery by a knowledgeable vet or Lupron Depot if surgery is impossible where you are and looking into Epogen, Proscar/Propecia, etc.
The risk of blocking and back-up to kidneys is a potentially fatal as is this form of anemia. Removal of the affected adrenal(s) is typically curative if caught early enough.
If both adrenals go cleanly then it will be necessary to replace adrenal products by using Florinef/Fludrocort or Percorten with Prednisolone.
