You can do that, some will some won't. Explain to the receptionist that you
are looking for a vet and are considering using their services but you would
like to ask the vet a few questions and would it be possible for the vet to
return a call, or is there a time perhaps when you could meet with them
before an actual ferret visit if that would be better.
Some feel they are so busy and that time is money and less likely for return
calls or allow for this but it is important. I am not sure of the protocols
for doing so either. Some might expect a fee to meet with them others not.
I think a lot depends on why they got into vet med in the first place. I
would return a call to answer what I can and possibly set up an appt, but I
know many that would not. So I understand your frustration and difficulty.
Another option go spend some time in the waiting room and talk to clients
and get feed back about the doctor. If they specialize you will hopefully
encounter some other ferret owners and maybe get some valuable info.
Good Luck in your search. Continue it though in a time when you don't
really need them so that you are more prepared when the time is of great
need.
