In addition to all the good diet suggestions I would
get him to a vet. There may be something which needs
treating causing the problem and treatment may be as
simple as giving medicine once or twice a day for a
week or two.

Over the past seven years we've seen heliobacter,
giardia, yeast in the stool, etc... All were easily
treated but would not have gone away without a vet
prescribing the right medicine.
