Some are thinner, some are fatter, just like people.
You need to get him to a vet anyway for vaccinations
and an examination. Your vet will let you know if
anything is wrong.

You want a food that is high in protein and fat.
Ferrets are obligate carnivores, meaning they are
pretty much strictly meat eaters. Some of the
commercial kibbled food that is good includes:

Totally Ferret
8-in-1 Ultimate (NOT Ultra, not the stuff at Wal Mart)
Mazuri
Zupreem Ferret Diet
Sheppard and Green
The Ferret Store Superior Choice

There are others. The key is to go for at least 35%
protein, 17-18% fat. Higher values are better. We
feed a mix of Totally Ferret (80%) and Zupreem (20%).

Litter is a matter of personal preference. We use
Yesterday's News Cat Litter (Original, Unscented).
Don't spend extra for their Ferret Litter. It's
exactly the same nowadays. Just make sure you get the
unscented version. This is a recycled newspaper
litter and there are other brands (Marshalls, Sheppard
and Green) that are about the same.

What you don't want in litter: anything clumping,
anything clay based, anything with aromatic woods
(cedar, pine, etc...), or litter pearls.

All the best,
Caity and the six wonder weasels
