I've found that Bob Church's Chicken Gravy is
fantastic for putting weight back on ferts who've lost
too much. No, it's not "People Food", and it does
take some preparation, but with Pam Sessoms' pressure
cooker method it's really not bad to make at all.
It's also a really good idea to have your ferret
develop a taste for it because this is what you are
going to want him to eat later on if he has a serious
medical problem. Everything you wanted to know (and a
whole bunch more) about Bob's Gravy is at:

Another thing you can do to put weight on him is to
give him Nutrical or Ferretvite (available at your
local better pet store) as a treat, but these are
empty, sugary calories with added vitamins.

As far as what "People Food" is healthy for a ferret
to eat, bits of most cooked meats are safe. I don't
know that they will put weight on him, but they make a
healthy treat. You can lightly salt the meat as a
flavor enhancer if he won't take it plain. Bits of
cooked poultry (chicken, turkey, duck, etc...) are
good.

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet, just a
moderately experienced ferret owner.

All the best,
Caity and the super six
