Our fuzzie, Georgie, is nearly 8 years old. Her mother was euthanased a month ago at age 8 1/2 with severe epileptic seizures (at least five hours non-stop of exhausting distress). Since Petal's death, Georgie's health has really declined. She sleeps around 23 hours a day and isn't eating as much as before, but drinks a fair bit. Her stools are not as bulky as they were. She lives on a meat diet, as here in Australia (at least where we are), there are not special ferret foods available. Most ferrets here are fed on milk sop - therefore life expectancy is very short.
I suspect Insulinoma, as when she is up and about, she is a bit unsteady on her back legs, but seems to recover a bit when she has eaten. She is basically skin and bone.
I've made an appointment to see the vet tomorrow, but was hoping for some clues from you guys to take with me. Ferret health is not something that receives a high priority in vet studies in this country. Hopefully this is changing.
Looking forward to your assistance.
Robyn and Georgie
