You will have to talk to the doctor about what is going on. Lasix is a diuretic,
meaning it makes you urinate more to remove excess body fluids. In
cardiomyopathy, where the heart muscle is affected and not pumping well, extra
fluid backs up into the lungs. Also swelling can occur elsewhere. The lasix gets rid
of the extra fluid. There are a few other meds that can also be used with the lasix
to help the heart.
The dose can be adjusted if she was peeing too much. It doesn't cause increase in
the stools, or diarrhea.

IF she hates taking meds and fights, paws at her mouth and so on and is already
kind of sick- she could get stress induced ulcers.
There is an injectible lasix if she completely refuses it or a compounding pharmacy
could make it flavored into something she likes, like molasses or olive oil, or cherry.
You can ask the vet if you can give ferretone or ferretvite with it.

Her cough is not just a cough if she has cardiomyopathy, it is possibly caused by
fluid in her lungs and this will be giving her trouble breathing if not treated. I don't
know the extent of her heart problem (ultrasound, xray findings) but that is
something to ask you vet about.

The glassy look in her eyes could have been from low blood sugar, more likely from
not eating or insulinoma than from the lasix.

You may also have to supplement her diet to replace potassium while she is on
lasix, ask you vet about that. he may be doing some blood tests in the future.

Hand feed her the meat baby food, make sure she is eating. Watch for other signs
of low blood sugar like drooling, starring, head bobbing, hind end weakness. If you
suspect the low blood sugar have the vet check it and go from there.
Carafate before her meals can also help to settle her stomach and help the ulcers
heal , acts like a bandage.

-- Gertrude was fine before she started her meds, except for the coughing. I really
dont know what to do. If he lasix is making her act this way id rather her be happy
without it, if that makes any sense.
Any help would be great!errethealth-unsubscribe@smartgroups.com
