Hi, Robert,

8 1/2 is within the normal range for a full ferret
lifespan. 6-9 years is typical. Some ferrets do live
longer. We have one that is almost 10, and I know of
one 12 year old, one 11 year old, and one 10 year old
in our local ferret club. That's unusual, though.
Most ferrets don't see double digits. I've also lost
four somewhere around their sixth birthday.

I've not seen anything to suggest that male or female
ferets live longer solely because of their sex.
