Have you seen Dr. Bruce Williams' article in "Ferrets" magazine on this? It appeared too recently to be on his website yet so you might have to write to Fancy to get a back issue but it is GREAT!

JL might have a genetic aspect; I have not seen anything indicating that is hte case for other forms.

Research work at MIT indicated that there appears to be a viral precursor for one form of lympho in ferrets. The ferrets developed the lymphoma something like 2 to 3 years after exposure. They were not able to track down just what virus but if I recall right were able to narrow it to a taxonomic category among virii.

We have had two such clumps here; they are real heartbreakers.
