Hi all, Does anyone know if a mosquito can be tested to see if it has the heartworms in it? (I saved the dead mosquito). If not, how long do you wait after a mosquito bite to check for possible heartworm? The reason I'm asking is, I noticed a mosquito by the ferrets cage last nite (the 3 of them were in there sleeping) and I brushed the mosquito away and then squished it, it was full of blood, so I'm guessing it might have bit one of the ferrets, but I cant say for sure. They're not on heartworm meds as they dont go outside. Any help would be greatly appreciated. On a side note, I called my vets and they told me to come in for an appt, they couldnt answer my question over the phone. Nice, huh?
Thanks,
Andrea
