I would have them tested and then give a dose of heartworm prevention.
Reason being the preventative works backwards, it will kill the
microfilariae that was introduced the month before, so as long as you do not
have a positive adult infection (whish is what is tested for) you should be
okay. It takes 6 months from the bite until the adult is present and living
near the heart. Hope this helps.
