I usu use 2 doses 4 weeks apart, esp if the mom is vaccinated. I might
consider 3 if there is absolutely no history of vaccination available and
the ferret is very young. I worry about vaccine reactions.

Yes there is another approved vaccine which is the one I currently use and
it is made by Merial and is called Pure Vax Ferret Distemper. Covers same
things as Fer Vac. Merial is also the company that makes the only approved
Rabies Vaccine for ferrets.

Hope this helps, and which is right no good answer I think it is an
