Hi, everyone,

I just had this discussion with our vet about Podo,
our 9.5 year old guy with more medical problems that
Carter has little pills. All of Podo's issues are, so
far, controlled with medication and he feels good and
plays normally. He's been on Lupron (one month depot)
for several months due to a recurrence of adrenal
disease. His age and the fact that he has
cardiomyopathy rule out surgery for him.

Podo regrew a full coat except for part of his tail
and all other adrenal symptoms (muscle wasting, weight
loss, aggressiveness, itchiness) disappeared for
several months after starting on the one month depot.
Now he's showing a little hair loss at the base of
the tail, just as if hair loss due to adrenal was just
starting. So far there are no other symptoms. Podo
is on 200mcg/month of lupron.

The range of dosages for lupron is 100mcg-500mcg. Our
vet said that if other symptoms start showing up again
we can easily go to 300-350mcg a month. His concern
about too much lupron is that it suppresses more than
adrenal disease including testosterone. Too much can
cause muscle wasting. Having said that, we have room
to increase Podo's dosage safely.

The usual disclaimer applies: I am not a vet. I just
have an old ferret on lupron whose dosage may
increase.

All the best,
Caity and the fantastic five
