I am wondering if giving melatonin at about the time of Winter's dusk post surgically makes sense for 3 (or more possibly) reasons:
1. possible help preventing future adrenal growths
2. possible help increasing appetite after surgery
3. Possible help creating a bit of tiredness in the first few days when over-activity can pose a danger (a problem with some ferrets post-surgically)

Our ferrets get some each day in baby food in case it can help those with adrenals and for appetite boost (which we've found useful here) for those who need that.
