I need to ask a few questions about euthanasia for ferrets. Not on my list
of fun things to do, but I may be faced with this soon. For now Buddy, my
boy with cardio and kidney failure is still happy, eating well, with only
one or two breathing problems a day/night. That may change over night. I
want to be prepared when it's time for the kindness shot. I've faced this
with dogs, cats and a donkey, never a ferret. I read the article *Letting
Go* on miamiferret. It speaks of an injection into the heart. I've also
heard of a shot *into the tummy*. Why, or when is this necessary? All my
other animal friends received injections into a leg vein. No struggle, just
peaceful forever sleep. The donkey received 3 injections into a neck vein,
again very peaceful.
My vet is currently on vacation, will be back late August. I'll discuss this
with her, but for now I'd like to know more than I do, just in case I need
to take Buddy to another vet. What questions should I ask, are there
options? What would be the determining factor as to method used.
Just so you know, I always stay with my little friends for this final shot.
By the time I've made the decision, the crying is over, the goodbyes said,
and I'm OK. However, this heartstick idea is bothering me. If I understand
it better, I'm sure I can be OK for that.
All words of wisdom welcome. If this opens old wounds for some of you, I'm
sincerely sorry.
