Not an easy topic to talk about. My vet tells me they can't inject it into a vein in a ferret because the veins are so small and the drug (b-euthanasia?)used is too thick. That's what he says and I don't see any reason for him to not be honest with me.

I've been through the heart stick more times than I care to think about; however, they have all been heavily sedated prior to this being done. My vet always assures me with a point of reference I can understand... he says they are under deep enough that adrenal surgery could be performed without a problem. At that point, he gives the final injection and there is absolutely no reaction.

I understand that the intraperatoneal method is painless and quick and doesn't require sedation first. I will probably ask my vet whether or not he is comfortable with this method next time.
