I will agree with this. I would never give an injection into the heart
unless the animal was so deeply anesthetized that serious surgical procedures could
be done without difficulty. That said, anesthetizing the animal first and
then doing the final injection via a heart stick is usually my preferred method
of euthanizing ferrets (and usually cats, for that matter). I have done the
intraperitoneal method and have had animals react painfully when the injection
is first given, so prefer not to do that.
