My obese ferret Fritz went in for an adrenalectomy today. The left one was =
excised; the right one was frozen. The vet thinks there still may be residu=
al tissue from the right one.
I asked him about checking the electrolytes, so we avoid an Addison's crisi=
s, and he said I didn't need to do that for 30 days. However, searching thr=
ough the FML archives last night, it seemed a lot of folks had electrolytes=
checked within the first 3-4 days.
What is the general consensus? Fritz is tired, obviously, but is still digg=
ing to get out of the cage. I know to look for lethargy and loss of appetit=
e, but I'd like to avoid that by knowing when to check the electrolytes.
(The vet who did the surgery is one of the top ferret vets in the country, =
btw.)
