When Hilbert was backing up due to bladder stones (See Archives at http://f=
hl.sonic-weasel.org .) he developed hydronephrosis and his bloodwork got ve=
ry scary EXCEPT that he remained within acceptable urine measurements for c=
oncentrating urine. The consulting urologist told our vet that as long as =
he concentrated urine and we all kept getting really astronomical amounts o=
f fluids into him (See the Archvies to see how much because I forget offhan=
d how much it was but I think we had to get something like 175 ml into him =
in each 24 hour period and we did it, too, but it wasn't easy.) and helping=
him empty his bladder enough (for a while that meant repeated cystos due =
to his blocked urethea that there was a chance of saving his kidneys and th=
at is exactly what happened. It was touch and go, but it worked. Now, tha=
t was a different situation, but it shows how sometimes one test can look v=
ery scary but if another one is still okay there is room for hope if the ri=
ght things are done, so just in case that hope may apply to any of these fe=
rrets...
There actually are quite a few posts on ferret with kidney disease of vario=
us types in the Complete FML Archives at http:/?fhl.son-weasel.org and they=
give a feeling for variation among individuals and approaches which have h=
elped multiple ferrets. I recommend them as a resource. There is no past =
mention of Renagen, though, unless it has an alternative name, so it might =
also be good to check in consultation with a veterinary urologist and to ma=
ke sure it is not poisonous for them. The ASPCA runs the Animal Poison Con=
trol Center at =
