Hi, my little guy, by the name of Oomi, short for Oomingmak, alaskan eskimo for "musk ox", has unfortunately been living up to his name. H was adopted from a shelter at about 8 months old. He was backyard bred, wasn't neutered until he was 8 months old, but his scent glands were left intact. As of the last two weeks (we've had him for about 5 weeks) he's starting expressing his scent glands with surprising frequency and without much stimulus (getting startled or hurt). As of late he seems to poof about every third day, often when he first wakes up in his cage from a nap or night's sleep, but also when trundling around the house. Sometimes he can is in the room all alone- there doesn't seem to be any real pattern.
Is this normal? What are the symptoms of impacted scent glands? Should I invest in a scented candle company for the next 9 years?
Thanx.
Pee-ew
