Sorry, but I have to disagree with that "obviously". If it is a contagion it could be using an fecal-oral route for instance as occured with that past strain of coccidia which presented similarly, or some other contact route.
Without necropsies with patholgy and toxicology there just is only the obsertvational data and that can be fit by too many things to get answers.
I do agree that anyone who is helping there needs to realize that precautions are essential because at this poiint there simply is no data to know what this is, how to prevent it, how ot treat it, how easily this is acquired, by what route it is acquired, or how long an incubation may exist if it is contagious. Hopefully future investigation would indicate a non-contagious cause rather than a contagion which may have a quiet period before it expresses itself, but without that work done we all remain in the dark.
