Just came home to clean up and check in, I spent the night at the shelter cleaning cages and disinfecting the animal room. They had all ready move all the well animals to some one Else's home before I got there. There are 10 sick ferrets still there and the birds and 6 turtles left be hind. They did get a call over there last night that scared the hell out of me. On 12-18 their grand daughter had been at the shelter and had been around the animals there. The girl's mom called last night the girl's pet rat is having trouble breathing will not eat or drink and has blood in it mouth. Now unknown if this is the same thing that the shelter has but if so then this can be carried in and out on your body, the girl did not and never has had the rat at the shelter. I also received an e-mail from an other shelter worker that had this same thing happen at the shelter she worked for in the year 2000. Over 150 animals died there they found it was a forum of airborne salmonella coming from the
turtles they were housing at the time. They also said that they had an other incident similar to the first one and it was from the food they were feeding. The shelter I'm helping uses the same food and they just got a new shipment of this brand. I'm going to call this other shelter's vet and talk to him and see if he would be able to talk to the vet here to see if they may come up with what this is.

P.S. if raw animal products are fed to the animals consider salmonella bacteria species even more strongly as a possibility.
