Dr. Bruce Williams is disinclined to think that Salmonella is the cause.

Here is what he sends:

It would have to be the hottest Salmonella in history. Carnivores are pretty resistant to Salmonella. It is not difficult to culture, and it is likely that they would culture it from the humans with the cramps and diarrhea. It also doesn't cause the bleeding signs that you mention throughout the body.

Most cases of hot salmonella would result in an outbreak of really fetid, but not bloody feces. Bloody diarrhea may result from shock, but I don't really like it for this outbreak.

On thinking about this it also would NOT make sense if it were a hot strain for the humans to be so mildly ill but the carnivoras so very ill in that case.

His inclination at this time -- with too little information to go on -- appears to tend toward poisoning, which I think is something most of us just keep coming back to as a one of the preferred possible causes.

Hopefully, we will hear back on this to discover what led to the reports. Whatever we are dealing with in relation to these reports at least we've all learned some things.
