Hi Ella, I recently had a ferret diagnosed with ulcers as well. I don't recall the name
of the medicine that he was on, but I can tell you a couple of things that helped him
put the weight he had lost back on, and enjoy eating again. Apparently he wouldn't
eat or drink because the ulcers hurt too much, so my vet recommended that I give
him half a Pepcid AC 30 minutes before feeding him and it worked like a charm
(please check with your vet first.) He started eating and drinking in no time and he
has gained almost 10 grams back. I also hand fed him every 4 or 5 hours Uncle
Mike's Chicken Gravy: http://www.exoticpetsvet.com/ferretsgravy.html. He
wouldn't touch baby food - but loves this. It's a lot of work to make - but well
worth it. I make a batch and freeze it into ice cube trays. I give him one or two
cubes mixed with water and he can't get enough. (Be careful if you microwave it to
thaw it - it gets hot.) One other thing to be careful with is Pepto and Kao ... drug
manufacturers recently added aspirin (or something similar to aspirin) to these
meds and they can be harmful to animals. I found a great exoctic specialists - I ran
into the same problem you did when I moved to a new city - every one was an
expert but no one could help. I am very thankful for my new doctor (just not the 2
hour drive to get to him!) Good Luvk with Boo-Boo.

[Moderator's note: I am familiar with the use of Pepcid but not PepcidAC so do not
know if there may be cautions there, but as the poster points out you need to ask
your treating vet first for any meds and more.]
