With it reccuring even if the vet ran a urine culture with testing for antibiotic sensitivity (Was that done?) surgery may be needed. We almost lost a little one last year to complications from him have a type of bladder malformation (a bladder diveritulum) where the bladder drainage tube the fetus would normally use did not retract and disappear as is normal but instead formed a pouch. One of the things absolutely needed in his case was sugery; it saved his life. Blood in urine became way too familiar to us with his infection, stones, and hypdonephosis. He's been fine now for about a half year.

If stones are found the vet will need to have the stones checked to see what type they are. Cystine and Struvite stones need opposite approaches for some parts of their follow-up.
